Oh my goodness, it is September, Spring has arrived in all of her splendid glory and I am so deeply in love with the world right now. I just want to go for long walks on the beach, and alongside running streams whilst taking in all of the loveliness. Last weekend we drove north east to do the 'Wildflower Way' and experience the full glory of Western Australia's wildflowers. It was just as gorgeous as I imagined and we really lucked out on timing as the bush was flush with blooms!
It was so inspiring and now I have the motivation to continue painting wildflowers and create a print I've been wanting to make for quite some time. I also created a wildflower painting workshop which I'm hosting next weekend so I can revel in the wildflower love with other creative souls. Eeep, I can't wait!
In the studio I've been focussed mostly on ceramics of late. I really want to have a good selection of work ready for my open studio in November, so that has been my priority. I've had some mishaps and quite a few failed pieces which bummed me out for a while but I've bounced back and discovered the source of the problem so it's only upwards and onwards from here! Here are some sweet things (love boats, dream boats, brooches and necklaces) that I made from clay which did work out a treat:
In other news, my front room (previously our mudroom) has been transformed into a tiny gallery space in which I can display all of my work and I'm just so thrilled to have this room to display all of my creations. I'm going to do a blogpost on it soon because I really want to show it off. I've set it up because I'm keen on finding alternative means to show and sell my work as the art market is such a difficult thing to navigate and I want to retain my freedom to make whatever I like. Also, having a space to display everything I make helps me to see the connections between my seemingly disparate creative interests.
Speaking of creative interests...printmaking continues to provide another outlet for my creativity and I've been playing around with tetra prints which are SO FUN!!!! Basically you use tetra packs to etch on, ink them up and then roll them through the press. I am addicted! I have so many tetra packs as I buy long life milk in bulk and I love that I can reuse them to make art. Who knew? I have been carving into tetra packs like a possessed beast and I'm going to go and spend a day printing them all up very soon. I'm so excited to experiment and see what marvellous creations come out of it. I'm also hoping to display one in the upcoming printmakers association exhibition - fingers crossed! Here's an example of what the prints look like:
I did this one quickly in my etching class and I just see so much potential for experimentation! It's surprising how fantastically the tetra etchings print up, don't you think? Anyway, it's my new (to me) thing. Haha! Stay posted for more fun prints!
Well, I think that's a good enough update for today. I've been doing and making so much that I keep thinking of new things to write about but I'd be here all day if I started listing everything. Needless to say I have been a busy bee and haven't really stopped making over the past month. It's been absolutely delicious! I've got some fun things coming up starting with three weekends of workshops beginning on Saturday, and then my open studio in November and a Christmas market in the city in early December. Yay! So, you know where I'll be until then - head down, bum up in my studio!
